Reformer Pilates

The kinder kind of strong.

What it is

Strengthens and lengthens your deep core stabilisers, and enhances your balance and mobility. Your back will complain less. Done on a reformer: a sliding platform with springs and straps that supports your body while it challenges it. Every spring setting adjusts to you, so the same class works for a first-timer and an athlete lying side by side.

Why it’s on our timetable

Because it’s one of the best-researched ways to build the deep core muscles that hold your spine. The ones ordinary workouts miss. Studies show Pilates improves balance, posture and lower-body strength, supports people with back pain, and does all this while being genuinely gentle on joints. If your body has asked you for a kinder kind of strong, this is it.

The six Pilates principles

Our instructors teach every class around the same six principles Joseph Pilates built the method on: breathing, concentration, centering, control, precision and flow. It is why a Reformer session feels different to an ordinary workout. Every movement is deliberate, connected to your breath, and controlled from your centre outwards. Slow down, and the results speak for themselves.

“Physical fitness is the first requisite of happiness.” Joseph Pilates

Start here: the Foundation Course

The reformer looks complicated, with its springs and straps. And that’s exactly why we don’t throw anyone in the deep end. If you haven’t done Pilates before, you’ll start with our six-week Foundation Course: a hands-on introduction where our trainers teach you the machine, the movements and the breathing properly, step by step. Six weeks later you walk into any class on the timetable knowing exactly what you’re doing.

No one gets thrown in the deep end here. We teach you properly first.

Done Pilates before? Come straight into classes. Can’t wait for the next course? Book a 1:1 or 2:1 session and we’ll bring you up to speed.

Who it’s for

Nearly everyone. Beginners, athletes, pre- and post-natal, anyone whose joints have opinions. Small classes, so your instructor sees every rep.

You’ll leave feeling

Taller. Calmer. Quietly worked in muscles you didn’t know you had.

Foundation Course: $180 for six weeks, or $150 for members. Required for beginners, a hands-on introduction.

Classes: Casual $28 · 10-class concession $250 · Reformer studio access $40/fortnight.

Please note: Reformer Pilates is our most in-demand class. Spots are limited and bookings are essential. Reserve early.
